Special Events and Volunteer Intern – 12-Week Summer Internship

About the Damar Internship Program

As a Special Events and Volunteer Intern, you’ll gain hands-on, real-world experience in the field of special events. Our program offers a valuable opportunity for anyone interested in careers in Events, Tourism, Hospitality, Communications, Volunteer Management, Nonprofit Management, Business Administration, Public Relations, or Philanthropy. Throughout this 12-week summer internship, you will work closely with the entire Damar Communications Team, playing a key role in supporting both internal and external volunteers. You’ll collaborate with a team of highly qualified professionals, gaining exposure to our unique client population and learning the ins and outs of event coordination and volunteer management. This internship is more than just an experience — it’s an opportunity for mentorship, leadership development, and coaching. You’ll have the chance to make a meaningful impact, contribute to the success of our clients, and expand your professional network by connecting with other exceptional interns and practicum students who share your career aspirations.

Remarkable ways you will be making a difference:

  • Consistently arrive to work at scheduled times
  • Performs duties as assigned
  • Organize and implement an inventory tracking system for event supplies
  • Assist with preparation, setup, teardown and facilitation of all events during the internship, including Damar Games, Fair Day, Talent Show, and a summer fundraising event
  • Create a welcoming experience for volunteers and support them during volunteer activities
  • Prioritizes duties in a manner consistent with organizational objectives and growth
  • Conduct an interview and write a volunteer feature for the quarterly e-news
  • Must be able to work in different office spaces in the greater Indianapolis area
  • Provide high-quality hospitality for volunteers and event guests
  • Write thank you notes for volunteers after events
  • Maintain a respectful and positive attitude when responding to the needs of others

What you need to be considered:

  • High school diploma
  • At least sophomore standing in college
  • 1 year of college in a major related to: Events, Tourism, Hospitality, Communications, Volunteer Management, Nonprofit Management, Business Administration, Public Relations, or Philanthrophy
  • Minimum age of 18 per licensure requirements
  • Valid Indiana driver’s license and driving record that meets eligibility requirements of Damar’s insurance carrier (for all positions requiring driving)
  • Be clear of any felony convictions, substantiated charges of neglect or other disqualifying criminal convictions
  • Successfully complete a pre-employment physical
  • Favorably meet and maintain Damar’s background screening

Essential Job Functions:

Physical: Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight (up to 35lbs); to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard; to travel to other locations using various modes of private and commercial transportation; and to verbally communicate to exchange information.

Vision: See in the normal visual range with or without correction.

Hearing: Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.
